This drama follows the life of Yoon Jeong-yeon, a vocal prodigy who attempts to become the best gugak actress after the Korean War in 1950. The original Naver webtoon Jung-yeon is a popular webtoon with 10 volumes, and we introduce the filming location of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born which tells the story of an idol in the 1950s. As a side note, the character of Yoon Jung-yeon in the original webtoon was modeled after the lead actress Kim Tae-ri.

“Just let me be on stage!
In the 1950s, Yoon Jung-yeon (Kim Tae-ri) is a self-taught singer who sells fish with her voice. One day, Moon Ok-kyung, a gugak actor who happens to be passing by and hears her, gives her a ticket and invites her to come see gugak. Wondering why people are so passionate about gugak, Jung-jeong visits the theater, where she hears a feast of sounds and dreams of becoming a shouter.
However, her mother is against it, saying that she shouldn't be a shouter, even if it's just for fun...
Struggling to get out of the poverty of Mokpo, Jeong-yeon visits Moon Ok-kyung and asks her for advice. She learns that the Maeran Gugak Troupe is looking for research students, so she auditions. Once in the troupe, she meets Hong Joo-ran and sees the singing skills of her seniors, including Seo Hye-rang. Heo Yeong-seo, a holy bone, and Jeong-yeon, a singing genius who used to sell songs on the market floor, face off.
Jung-yeon, who is trying to become a singer, finally gets to stand on stage after all her hard work...
